Vic: Seach to begin fro five bushwalkers at Mt Bogong

MELBOURNE, April 18 AAP - Searchers would begin looking this morning for five bushwalkers,
in two separate groups, missing since yesterday near Mt Bogong, north-east of Melbourne,
police said.

One party of two 60-year-olds, believed to be a couple, and a second, unrelated group
of two 40-year-old men and a 16-year-old boy, had failed to return from walks as expected
yesterday afternoon.

A police spokesman said it was not yet clear whether the two groups had become lost
or simply overestimated their walking capacity and camped overnight.

It was not known what equipment the two groups had carried with them.

Local police and SES volunteers would begin searches about 8am today, the spokesman said.

Mt Bogong lies in the Alpine National Park, more than 230 km north-east of Melbourne.

Further details would be available later this morning, the spokesman said.
