NAME: Mark P. Lauriello, president of Rettew Associates Inc., a full-service consulting firm providing engineer. mg, environmental, planning, surveying, and land-development services. Rettew has more than 200 employees and six offices in Maryland, New York and Pennsylvania, including offices in Camp Hill and Lancaster.

PERSONAL: wife, Sharon; daughter, Samantha Jo, age 8

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU OVERCAME AT YOUR COMPANY? "Since becoming Rettew's president in October, my biggest challenge has been asking employees to rise to new levels and to work harder than they ever have, while at the same time showing them how much they're appreciated and valued."

WHAT TRENDS IN YOUR PROFESSION DO YOU SEE IN CENTRAL PA? "Attracting the best and brightest employees in our industry is highly competitive. To keep pace with increasing project and client demands, growing our talented staff has become a priority at Rettew."

YOUR DEFINITION OF A LEADER: "A leader is one who establishes a vision and direction by considering all applicable factors and then inspires others to pursue that direction with complete confidence that it will yield success."

ONE OF YOUR FIRST JOBS AND WHAT YOU LEARNED FROM IT: "I was a welder in a factory and learned that you must first know the boss' expectations before you can exceed them."
