Fed: people smuggler expected leave Indon jail in morning

A people smuggler allegedly responsible for the drowning of 353 people is expectedto be released from an Indonesian jail tomorrow and then deported to Egypt.

Although ABU QUASSEY can't be extradicted from Indonesia to Australia, the Australiangovernment says it will do everything in its power to bring the man to justice.

QUASSEY is being held in Cipinang jail in East Jakarta.

An Indonesian immigration official says he'll be transferred to a detention centretomorrow morning.

Justice Minister CHRIS ELLISON says Australia has four arrest warrants out for QUASSEY-- three relating to the arrival of people smuggling vessels between February 2000 andAugust 2001.

The fourth, the most serious, relates to his involvement as organiser of the asylumseeker vessel SIEV-X which sank off Indonesia in October last year with the loss of 353lives.
